Surfrider Foundation takes action every day for a cigarette-butt-free Ocean
In 2024, more than 1,300,000 cigarette butts were collected during clean-up operations organized by Surfrider throughout France and Europe.
Butts are still the most common type of waste found on beaches and in aquatic environments, accounting for 16% of the waste collected during the 2024 Ocean Initiatives.
A single cigarette butt can pollute up to 500 liters of water and release thousands of toxic substances, endangering aquatic flora and fauna.
